The first meeting of the douchebagfoodcritics, Kristine, Jamie and me. New place to try out after a yelp hunt by me. Not disappointed! Really cute and quaint ambiance (remind me to bring a date here). Service was good, sangria yum.

What we had:Sangria of course

Spicy Butternut Squash Doughnuts with toasted walnut-madras curry dip, and oregano honey
Flavorful crunchy good sweetness

Mushroom Tokana with potato, feta and caper crispy dumplings, and dill marinated cabbage
This was interesting, yet very very good. Mushroom tokana wa
s great

Pecan Coated Catfish over sweet potato-andouille hash, with firefly collard greens, and mustard pan sauce
Flavorful as well, the fish has a sharp citrus tang, collard greens cooked just right!

Italian Broccoli with white beans, chili flakes, garlic, herbs, and grilled flat bread (in back), Parsley-Garlic Fries (front)
I didnt care too much for the Broccoli, but the Parsley-Garlic fries was really good

Pear and Cranberry Crisp with corn meal-pine nut crumble and sweet basil ice cream

Piping hot piping good

Dulce de Leche Cake with caramelized orange, cinnamon whipped cream and a shot of Mexican hot chocolate
Anything with dulce de leche is great. The cake has the right amount of lightness, the shot just tops it off

Best Seafood Burrito EVAR

Beto's Grill

Temple City, CA 91780

No pictures for this but let me tell you the tale of a good burrito. After being flaked on last night I decided to do a food haunt. It being lent and friday had me in the mood for seafood. Sushi? Salad? Vegetarian? nah I want something substantial. Ended up here, ordered the seafood burrito. Took a little bit of a while but the time was worth it. This was massive, coated in cheese and sauce. This was a knife and fork affair, big chunks of shrimp, fish cooked right. It could've fed a family of 4 but I have an appetite of 6. With the Bohemias piling up, it was great

Took my parents here for my mothers birthday. My home base for tapas usually is cobras and matadors, but it was time to try something new.

I never thought I would be a person to take pictures of my food now.

What we had:

Cold ginger cream soup:
It is what it's named. It reminds me of a potato gazpacho, it's sweet but not overpowering sweet with more than a hint of ginger.
tuna tartare with black truffle and taro chips
Sushi grade tuna, mashed up shaped up. Like ceviche without the tang of citrus, very very good its one of their signature dishes.
Salted cod & potato puree
This kinda suprised me, I was expecting a bacalao type dish with an actual fish, but it was a crocetta, it was interesting, very flavorful on the cod end. A little bland on the puree finish
Sauteed Shrimp in Garlic sauce
You can NOT go wrong with this I love garlic and it was great. I kept asking the bussers to leave the saucepan so we can dip our bread in the shrimp garlic leavins.
4 Kinds of cauliflower in a truffle cream sauce
This was ok, could've used a tad bit more salt in the cream sauce though.
The desserts we had were: tart tatin with apples and, vanilla ice cream.

Nothing really to write home about but it was good.

Overall it was a good experience, food was great, the service awesome, very patient esp when they're explaining the dishes to my parents. Highly recommended

give me a break its my first post, ill format the html right later!

The beginning of the end?

It has been a while since I ever blogged. My usual bloggings would be about ranting about life, random crap etc. This one will be about food, (with the constant "support" of friends telling me to write about food).

Since the beginning of 2008 or so I started to eat out more often, when the budget allows for it. And as I look back goddamn I ate at alot of places. Friends grew jealous on my foodventures and usually are impressed (I hope) when I bring them to someplace they never heard of or a type of cuisine they never tried.

There are plenty of food blogs, review spots (yelp for example), in the wide expanse of the internet. What will make mine different? I have no fucking idea. Will this site last? I can guarantee you no more than 2 months.

I can take it to the perspective of the starving working person. Especially in this time of recessions, depressions, and any "ssions". You can eat fine food without paying fine prices. I am not that food douche that cannot eat in McDonalds, must have free range beef, organic etc. Although what you might see here, may be fine looking establishments most of the time, I enjoy myself a bacon ultimate cheeseburger from jack in the box, or a taco from the corner taco stand with seedy people all around. If it tastes good, and satisfies you, then go for it!
